Course Summary

This self-paced, academically rigorous online training program focuses on phytoncides and their integration into professional development for Shinrin-Yoku (Forest Bathing, Forest Therapy) Guides. The course provides a comprehensive exploration of phytoncides from scientific, practical, and ethical perspectives, emphasizing their role in human health and forest therapy practices. 

This training is designed for practitioners of forest therapy and guides, including those certified also by other institutions. It is also suitable for instructors, teachers, and educators who wish to expand their knowledge and skills in integrating phytoncides and nature-connected practices into their work.

Upon successful completion of the program, participants will receive a Shinrin Yoku Association (SYA) accredited certificate, providing an opportunity to top up their existing knowledge and credentials. This certification demonstrates a strong scientific foundation and professional competence in phytoncides and forest therapy practices.

Milena, your instructor for this training is a dedicated advocate for nature-related practices. As the Founder The Mindful Tourist: 森の心・人の心  and the Shinrin Yoku Association (SYA), she combines her deep passion for Forest Therapy/Shinrin-Yoku/Forest Bathing with an academic approach to promote personal transformation, mindfulness, sustainability and holistic health. She lived and worked in Japan for a decade. Milena's approach is rooted in the principles of Kokoro (mind, heart, and spirit), and new humanism, fostering global empathy and a deeper connection to nature. Her extensive academic background, including a Master Degree in Chemistry from Nottingham Trent University, PhD in Engineering/Applied Physics from Tohoku University and an MSc in Psychology from Derby University, underpins her work. She has also conducted research on nature’s role in emotional regulation. She has received numerous accolades, inter alia, the Tohoku University Excellence Scholarship, the Vulcanus in Japan Scholarship, Oxford Press Chemistry Prize, reflecting her commitment to bridging science, mental health prevention and nature's wellbeing as a result.
